Women’s U-19 One Day Trophy Elite match: Gujarat beat Odisha by seven wickets

Thiruvananthapuram: A composed batting effort led by Charlie Solanki helped Gujarat Under-19 Women secure a comfortable seven-wicket win over Odisha in the Women’s Under-19 One Day Trophy Elite match at the Sports Hub International Cricket Stadium, here on Monday.

After winning the toss, Gujarat opted to field first and their bowlers put in a disciplined performance to restrict Odisha to 182 all out in 49.2 overs. Ananya P Rout was the standout with the bat for Odisha, scoring a fighting 57 off 64 balls, which included five fours and a six. Sreya Priyadarshini provided useful support with 28 runs from 29 deliveries.

For Gujarat, Ayushi K Patel delivered an economical spell, finishing with figures of 2 for 18 from nine overs, while Jiya A Jain picked up two wickets for 39 runs in her 9.2 overs to keep Odisha in check.

Chasing a target of 183, Gujarat got off to a steady start before Charlie Solanki anchored the innings with a well-paced knock of 90 from 92 balls. Her innings, laced with 13 boundaries, ensured Gujarat remained firmly in control of the chase. Yashvi Malam chipped in with 35 runs off 59 balls to provide solid support at the other end.

Odisha bowlers tried to stage a comeback, with Ananya P Rout returning figures of 1 for 31 from nine overs and Yuvalipi Parida claiming 1 for 16 in her three-over spell. However, the target proved too modest as Gujarat reached 183 for 3 in 30.5 overs.
