Vijay Merchant Trophy: Shivansh ton powers Punjab against Odisha on Day 1

Morena: Punjab rode on an unbeaten century from Shivansh to post a solid first-innings total on the opening day of their Vijay Merchant Trophy (U-16) multi-day clash against Odisha at the MPCA Ground, here on Tuesday.

After Odisha won the toss and opted to field, Punjab finished Day 1 at 254 for 8, building their innings around a resolute knock from Shivansh, who remained not out on 114 off 223 balls. His innings was studded with 17 fours, as he anchored the Punjab innings through regular fall of wickets.

Shivansh found support from Varun, who occupied the crease for a long period to score 38 off 115 balls, helping Punjab stabilise the innings during the middle phase.

For Odisha, Gunjan Sahoo was the standout bowler, returning impressive figures of 4 for 78 from 20 overs, consistently troubling the batters with his accuracy. Sheeben Majhi provided valuable support from the other end, picking up two wickets for 46 runs in 11 overs.
