Bengaluru: A 13-year-old girl and her nine-year-old brother who left home after being scolded by their parents have been traced and safely reunited with their family, police said on Wednesday.

The children had walked out of their house in Ashwathnagar on February 2. They were reportedly upset after being reprimanded for skipping tuition classes.

According to police, the siblings told their parents they were heading to tuition but instead left the area with a bag containing clothes and some food. When they did not return, their worried parents approached the police and filed a missing complaint.

Following the complaint, alerts were sent to police stations across Bengaluru and other parts of the state. Photographs and details of the children were also shared on social media to help trace them.

Police said the girl was carrying her Aadhaar card, which enabled her to travel free of cost under the state government’s Shakti scheme. Her younger brother travelled without a ticket.

During their time away, the siblings travelled through several districts, including Shivamogga. They were reportedly planning to visit their grandparents in Chitradurga when they were traced by the police.

Both children have now been brought home safely, officials said.
