FIR lodged against 10 over alleged financial irregularities at Barabanki girls’ college
Barabanki (UP): Police have registered a case against 10 people in connection with an alleged financial scam at Munshi Raghunandan Prasad Sardar Patel Girls Degree College in Barabanki, officials said on Saturday.
The FIR was filed at City Kotwali police station following a court order, Station House Officer Sudhir Kumar Singh said. Those named in the case include Umashankar Verma, Dhirendra Kumar, Manav Patel, Man Singh, Rajesh Kumar, Rajiv, Ashok, Sunil, Ajay and Bhagwat.
The action stems from a complaint by Krishna Chaudhary, a founding trustee of the college, who accused certain members of the management committee of preparing forged documents to siphon off nearly Rs 2.7 crore from the institution.
According to the petition filed before the chief judicial magistrate, Umashankar Verma and former cooperative bank chairman Dhirendra Kumar Verma allegedly declared themselves office-bearers of the college without holding valid elections or securing approval from the Registrar of Firms, Societies and Chits in Ayodhya.
The complainant further alleged that a fake management committee meeting was shown to have been held on April 5, 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, and that the signatures of 17 members were forged. On the basis of these documents, around Rs 50 lakh was allegedly transferred through RTGS from the college’s accounts in a nationalised bank and the district cooperative bank to a private firm, Deyaram and Sons Trading, without any supporting bills.
It was also alleged that Rs 20 lakh was transferred to the bank account of Umashankar Verma’s son, Manav Patel, without the approval of the management committee. Additionally, despite Rs 2.07 crore in the cooperative bank account being frozen, funds were allegedly moved to another account by taking advantage of Dhirendra Kumar Verma’s position as the bank’s chairman.
Chaudhary told the police that she had earlier approached the superintendent of police and submitted a complaint on September 25, 2025, but no action was taken, following which she moved the court.
Responding to the allegations, Umashankar Verma denied any wrongdoing and claimed the FIR was registered on the basis of “false allegations” made by his rivals. He said the accused would cooperate with the investigation and present evidence to prove their innocence.
