Vijay Hazare Trophy: Biplab Samantaray, bowlers power Odisha to 79-run win over Delhi
Bengaluru: Odisha registered a convincing 79-run victory over Delhi in their Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter at the Alur Cricket Stadium III, here on Wednesday, producing a solid all-round performance after being put in to bat.
Asked to bat first after Delhi won the toss, Odisha posted a competitive 272/8 in 50 overs. Biplab Samantaray anchored the innings with a well-paced 72 off 74 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes to keep the scoreboard ticking. Govinda Poddar added useful support with 35 off 53 deliveries. Delhi’s bowling effort was led by Hritik Shokeen, who returned impressive figures of 4 for 27 from 10 overs, while Prince Yadav chipped in with 2 for 57.

In reply, Delhi were bowled out for 193 in 42.3 overs, falling well short of the target. Harsh Tyagi top-scored with a patient 43 off 71 balls, while Hritik Shokeen contributed a brisk 32 off 24 balls, including three fours and two sixes. However, the chase never gathered momentum as Odisha’s bowlers struck at regular intervals.
Debabrata Pradhan led the attack with figures of 3 for 28 in 7.3 overs, while Sambit S Baral provided strong support, claiming 3 for 34 from 8 overs. Their disciplined spells ensured Delhi were kept under pressure throughout the innings.
