New Delhi: The Delhi government has proposed a new EV Policy for 2026, under which people buying electric two-wheelers could get a subsidy of up to Rs 30,000 in the first year after the policy comes into effect.
As per the draft, buyers of electric scooters and bikes may receive Rs 10,000 per kWh, with a maximum limit of Rs 30,000 in the first year. The subsidy will reduce in the following years, going up to Rs 20,000 in the second year and Rs 10,000 in the third year. To qualify, the vehicle’s price should not be more than Rs 2.25 lakh.
The policy also offers benefits for electric auto-rickshaws. Buyers can get Rs 50,000 in the first year, Rs 40,000 in the second year and Rs 30,000 in the third year. This will apply to both new autos and those replacing older CNG vehicles with valid Delhi permits.
For electric goods vehicles like e-trucks, the government has proposed incentives of up to Rs 1 lakh in the first year, followed by Rs 75,000 in the second year and Rs 50,000 in the third year.
The subsidy amount will be directly transferred to buyers, including individuals and businesses, as long as they are residents of Delhi and the vehicle is registered there. Applicants will need to apply through a process that will be announced by the Transport Department.
The draft policy also suggests that most electric vehicles will not have to pay road tax or registration fees. However, electric cars costing more than Rs 30 lakh will not get this benefit.
The government has invited suggestions and feedback from the public and stakeholders within 30 days. People can send their responses by email or post, and late submissions will not be accepted. To avoid crowding, the public has been advised not to visit government offices in person.
