Two five-year-olds killed in separate accidents in Delhi

New Delhi: In two separate accidents involving e‑rickshaws claimed the lives of five‑year‑old children in Delhi on the same day. The first occurred in Uttam Nagar, where an e‑rickshaw allegedly speeding overturned near a residential area.

A young girl was playing near her home when the vehicle overturned and fatally injured her. The driver of the vehicle ha been arrested and a case was filed on charges of rash driving and causing death by negligence.

As reported by The Times of India, the second tragic event occurred in Sangam Vihar. Here, a water delivery e‑rickshaw that was parked was accidentally activated when a child apparently played around its controls. The vehicle surged forward and struck another five‑year‑old boy, causing fatal injuries. The boy was rushed to AIIMS but was declared dead shortly thereafter. His father, who was away in Bihar at the time, was informed of the tragedy.

The past few years have seen a rising number of accidents involving such vehicles. From January 1 to August 20 in the same year, e‑rickshaws in Delhi were involved in 108 accidents, resulting in 26 deaths and 130 injuries.
