Ranji Trophy: Odisha post 243 on Day 1, UP reach 17/0 at stumps
Kanpur: Odisha managed to put up 243 runs in their first innings before being bowled out by Uttar Pradesh on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy 2025–26 clash at Green Park Stadium here on Saturday. In reply, Uttar Pradesh reached 17 for no loss at stumps, trailing by 226 runs.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Odisha’s innings revolved around the contributions from the top and middle order. Govinda Poddar top-scored with a well-compiled 64 off 109 balls, hitting seven boundaries. Sambit S Baral played a steady hand with an unbeaten 59 off 90 balls, while Sandeep Pattanaik (53 off 138) and Rajesh Mohanty (48 off 57) added valuable runs to help Odisha cross the 200-run mark.
For Uttar Pradesh, Shivam Sharma led the bowling attack with impressive figures of 3 for 65, maintaining consistent pressure. Shivam Mavi (2/46), Prashant Veer (2/1) and Vipraj Nigam (2/39) also chipped in with crucial wickets to restrict Odisha to a moderate total.
In response, the Uttar Pradesh openers Madhav Kaushik (9 not out) and Abhishek Goswami (6 not out) played cautiously to see off seven overs before stumps, reaching 17 without loss.
