Cuttack: Odisha recovered well to post 205 for 5 at stumps on Day 1 of their Ranji Trophy 2025–26 clash against Baroda at the Barabati Stadium. The recovery was led by captain Subhranshu Senapati and wicketkeeper-batter Rajesh Dhuper, whose patient 156-run stand rescued the hosts after a top-order collapse.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Odisha’s openers provided a steady start with a 49-run partnership before Baroda’s bowlers struck in quick succession, reducing the side to 49 for 4. From that position, Senapati and Dhuper displayed resilience and composure, grinding out runs against a disciplined Baroda attack. Senapati fell on the final ball of the day for a well-crafted 79 off 203 deliveries, while Dhuper remained unbeaten on 76 from 212 balls.

Baroda’s spinners Bhargav Bhatt and A. Sheth were the chief wicket-takers, claiming two wickets each and keeping the scoring rate under control. Bhatt finished with 2 for 54 from 26.5 overs, while Sheth returned figures of 2 for 41 from 14 overs.

Earlier in the day, debutants Gaurav Choudhary and Badal Biswal received their maiden first-class caps, presented by skipper Subhranshu Senapati and senior player Govinda Poddar respectively. With Dhuper still at the crease and the lower order to follow, Odisha will look to build on their total when play resumes on Day 2.
