There are already criticisms about no buzz around the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with empty stands, but all those doubts would be put to rest when India kicks off their campaign in Chennai on Sunday.

The tournament will come alive when Rohit Sharma walks out for the toss along with Pat Cummins, his Australian counterpart. The coramandel coast making the backdrop to Chepauk and a boisterous crowd to cheer.

Team news:

Shubman Gill recovering from dengue is doubtful for the match and if not available Ishan Kishan will most likely open with Rohit Sharma. In the middle-order who will it be, Shreyas Iyer or Suryakumar Yadav. Going by the pitch in Chennai, India may go pick R Ashwin ahead of Shardul Thakur at No. 8.

In the Aussie camp, Marcus Stoinis is racing against time to get fit for the game. In that case Cameron Green will take his place as a bowling allrounder.

Pitch and weather:

The dry black-soil of Chepauk track will tempt both teams to pick spinners. India may go in with three spinners. The Chennai track offers a fair contest between the bat and ball.

The weather is expected to be hazy with scattered showers in the evening, and temperature around 33 degrees celsius. This time of the year, Chennai receive rains induced by the retreating North-East monsoon.
