Delhi: Road mishap uncovers theft gang, three arrested with stolen items
New Delhi: What began as a routine road accident report in southwest Delhi’s Kapashera turned into a surprising twist when police discovered that the victims of the crash were actually thieves on the run. Three men have been arrested and stolen goods were recovered, officials said on Monday.
According to police, a PCR call was received around 8:13 p.m. on Wednesday about a collision between a scooter and a car near Kapashera. When officers reached the scene, they noticed that the two men on the scooter appeared nervous and anxious to end the matter quickly.
The suspects were identified as Rohit Ravidas (25) and Karamjeet (28), both residents of Sonia Gandhi Camp drew further suspicion when one of them was found with a mobile phone he couldn’t unlock. On questioning, the duo confessed to a house burglary committed earlier that same day in Gopalji Colony, where they had stolen a bag and three mobile phones belonging to a man named Lal Chand.
Based on their statements, police recovered the stolen bag and later apprehended their associate, Pankaj (33), also from Sonia Gandhi Camp. He was found with another stolen phone that had been sold to him by the duo.
Investigators said Rohit and Karamjeet are repeat offenders involved in multiple house thefts, with Pankaj helping to sell the stolen items and share the proceeds. One of the stolen phones had already been sold, police added.
Further checks revealed that Rohit has four prior criminal cases against him, while Pankaj has two, officers confirmed.
