Delhi factory worker arrested for murder of 11-year-old girl, sexual assault suspected
New Delhi: A 20-year-old factory worker has been arrested for allegedly murdering an 11-year-old girl who had gone to his workplace in north Delhi’s Wazirabad to collect pending tiffin payment, police said on Saturday. Investigators suspect the child may have been sexually assaulted, though confirmation awaits the post-mortem report.
According to police, the girl was reported missing on November 21. A kidnapping case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered, and teams began analysing CCTV footage to trace her movements.
At 12.27 pm on November 22, a PCR call alerted authorities to the body of a minor found in the Khadar area. Police and forensic teams reached the spot and discovered the girl with visible injuries, indicating homicide. By 3 pm, her family formally identified the body as that of the missing child.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl had visited a nearby cap-manufacturing unit to collect dues for the tiffin supplied by her family. Ten police teams were deployed to retrace her steps and identify the suspect.
CCTV analysis captured the girl interacting with a factory worker, raising suspicion. The accused, a resident of Wazirabad and originally from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, was traced soon after and detained for questioning.
“During interrogation, mud-stained and blood-stained clothes were recovered from him. He confessed to the crime during sustained questioning,” a senior police officer said.
Police said CCTV evidence and the recovery of stained clothes strongly linked the accused to the murder. Whether the victim was sexually assaulted will be determined after the post-mortem examination. Additional sections have been added to the FIR as the investigation progresses.
