Mumbai: Centuries from Ayush Jethwa and Manan Bhatt helped Mumbai take firm control against Odisha on day two of their Col C K Nayudu Trophy (U23) match at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana, here on Saturday.
At stumps on day two, Mumbai had reached 293 for 3 in 89.2 overs in their first innings, taking a commanding lead of 124 runs over Odisha’s first innings total of 169.
Day 2: Jethwa and Bhatt dominate with brilliant centuries
Resuming their innings, Mumbai batters put on a strong display with Ayush Jethwa and Manan Bhatt leading the charge. Jethwa hit a composed knock of 144 off 280 balls, hitting 14 fours and anchoring the innings with great discipline.
Bhatt provided excellent support and kept the scoreboard moving with a fluent 111 off 182 balls, which included 11 fours and two sixes. The duo’s centuries ensured Mumbai stayed in complete control and built a solid first innings lead.
For Odisha, Priyanshu Mohanty bowled with good control, picking up one wicket for 33 runs in 16.2 overs while maintaining an impressive economy rate. Badal Biswal also put in a disciplined effort, finishing with one for 70 in 24 overs and bowling five maidens. Despite their efforts, Odisha bowlers found it difficult to break the strong Mumbai partnerships.
Earlier, after winning the toss and choosing to bat, Odisha were bowled out for 169 in their first innings.
Om T Munde was the top scorer for Odisha with a fighting 77 off 147 balls, hitting 11 fours and a six. He showed resilience and held the innings together during a challenging phase.
Dinesh K Majhi also contributed with a patient 43 off 117 balls, including six boundaries, but Odisha struggled to build momentum as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Mumbai bowlers dominated the proceedings, with Suryansh Shedge leading the attack with excellent figures of 3 for 29 in 17 overs, including five maidens. Himanshu Singh also played a key role, picking up 3 for 38 in 20.4 overs and maintaining tight control.
