Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has invited residents to share their suggestions for the 2026–27 civic budget, continuing its initiative to make city planning and development more participatory and citizen-focused.

According to AMC officials, a total of 2,607 suggestions were received this year from citizens through multiple channels, including 798 via email. Of these, 1,795 suggestions (68.85%) were related to essential civic services, while 788 (30.23%) pertained to non-mandatory areas such as parks, recreation, and welfare schemes.

A small portion of suggestions – 16 (0.61%) – focused on revenue generation, and 8 (0.31%) were aimed at enhancing service delivery.

Among essential services, the highest number of responses were related to everyday urban concerns. Roads and footpaths received 487 suggestions (18%), followed by drainage and stormwater management (12.54%), water supply (11.39%) and street lighting and electrical works (10.74%).

Residents also raised issues about solid waste management (4.22%), traffic (3.76%) and housing (3.76%), along with requests for improvements in public health, fire safety and infrastructure such as bridges and crematoriums.

In the non-mandatory category, citizens showed growing interest in urban beautification, green spaces, and quality-of-life initiatives. Popular suggestions included gardens and tree plantations (5.10%), ICDS and welfare programmes (5.10%), public transport (3.07%), and sports and recreation facilities (2.88%).

Other inputs highlighted the need for better parking management, Smart City projects, e-governance, libraries, and senior citizen parks — reflecting citizens’ focus on sustainability and livability.

AMC stated that all feedback will be carefully reviewed and integrated into the 2026–27 budget, with actionable suggestions guiding reforms in civic planning and service delivery.

“Citizen participation helps us make development more responsive and inclusive. The feedback will shape key priorities for the coming financial year,” an AMC official said.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is the city’s main governing body, responsible for essential infrastructure such as roads, drainage, water supply, lighting, sanitation and waste management. It also oversees urban planning, housing, education, healthcare and environmental sustainability projects to promote balanced urban growth.
