Vijay Hazare Trophy: Swastik Samal’s ton in vain as Haryana beat Odisha

Bengaluru: A magnificent unbeaten century from Parth Vats guided Haryana to a four-wicket victory over Odisha in their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 match at Alur Cricket Stadium II on Saturday.

Opting to field, Haryana were put under pressure by Odisha’s strong batting effort, which saw them post a competitive 305 for 9 in 50 overs. Swastik Samal led the charge with a well-crafted 101 off 102 balls, striking 10 fours and three sixes. He was well supported by Govinda Poddar, who scored a steady 77 from 82 deliveries, including eight boundaries.

For Haryana, Parth Vats and Anuj Thakral shared the bowling honours, picking up three wickets each. Vats returned figures of 3 for 60 from his 10 overs, while Thakral finished with 3 for 68.

In reply, Haryana chased down the target in 48.4 overs, finishing at 309 for 6, courtesy of an outstanding unbeaten knock from Parth Vats. He anchored the chase with a superb 157 not out off 136 balls, studded with 13 fours and five sixes. He found able support from Anuj Thakral, who played a brisk unbeaten knock of 59 off 48 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes, as the pair ensured Haryana crossed the line comfortably.

Among the Odisha bowlers, Debabrata Pradhan picked up 2 for 56 from eight overs, while Biplab Samantaray claimed 2 for 48 in 6.4 overs, but their efforts were not enough to stop Haryana’s charge.
