Odisha beat Gujarat by 37 runs in U23 State A Trophy clash
Vadodara: Odisha produced a strong all-round performance to register a 37-run victory over Gujarat in their Men’s U23 State A Trophy (One-Day format) match at the Kotambi Stadium B Ground, here on saturday.
After being sent in to bat, Odisha posted a competitive 267/9 in 50 overs, built around three fine half-centuries at the top.
Openers Om T Munde (54 off 76) and Shreyansh Bhardwaj (53 off 48) gave Odisha a solid start. Munde anchored the innings with patience, while Bhardwaj played more fluently, striking at 113.95 with seven boundaries, including two sixes.
Sambit K Beja continued the momentum with a brisk 52 off 50 balls, hitting two fours and two sixes to push Odisha towards a strong total.
For Gujarat, Nirmal Prajapati (3/57) was the standout bowler, while Kushan Shyam Patel (3/48) and Bhavya V Chouhan (2/48) chipped in with crucial breakthroughs.
Gujarat’s reply saw a spirited effort from their top order but the side eventually folded for 230 in 47.4 overs.
Opener Kushan Shyam Patel capped off an excellent all-round outing with a blazing 60 off just 45 balls, striking six boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 133.33.
Sujal Jiwani added a fighting 53 off 65 balls, but regular wickets at the other end kept Gujarat on the back foot throughout the chase.
Odisha’s attack maintained discipline, with Md Danish (3/50) leading the way. His breakthroughs in the middle overs shifted momentum decisively. Vimal Kumar supported well with 2/39, tightening control as the chase progressed.
