Bhubaneswar: Utkal University, under the patronage of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Odisha, and the State Higher Education Council, is set to host the state-level Inter University Athletic Competitions-2024.

The event, scheduled from February 15 to 19, has the support and funding from the state government. More than 1,000 athletes are expected to take part from 38 universities across the state.

Vice-chancellor of Utkal University, Prof Sabita Acharya, announced in a press conference recently that the Inter University Athletic Competitions-2024 will feature a variety of events, scheduled to take place at the Biju Patnaik Sports Complex of Utkal University and Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

Prof Acharya outlined events such as the 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1500 mtrs race, high jump and long jump, javelin throw, discus throw, shotput, hurdle race and relay races. Each university can nominate two students for each event.

Additionally, cultural programmes are scheduled in the evenings at the Utkal University Convocation Hall, providing participants with an opportunity to experience the rich culture, heritage and art forms of Odisha.

The inaugural ceremony on the first day of the event will be attended by Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, minister of Higher Education, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Co-operation, Govt. of Odisha, serving as the chief guest. The ceremony will also feature Aravind Agarwal, commissioner-cum-secretary, Department of Higher Education, and Olympian Anuradha Biswal, as guests of honour.

The valedictory ceremony, scheduled for February 19 in the University Convocation Hall, will honour the winners with cash prizes, trophies and certificates.
