Dhanteras 2021: Key things to know. From muhurat to what you can buy and not buy
Dhantrayodashi, also called Dhanteras, marks the first day of Diwali festivities and is a crucial time for traders and buyers. This year, Dhanteras is being observed on Tuesday, November 2.
It is considered as an auspicious time for business and people buy gold, silver jewellery, utensils and electronics to welcome Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera, who represent wealth and prosperity in Hindu mythology.
What all you can buy:
You may buy gold, silver or diamond silver jewellery. People often purchase coins featuring images of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha. Electronic items like TV, fridge, AC, laptop etc are also good options to buy today. You can buy steel or brass utensils for your kitchen or try to revamp the house by getting some new furniture. Buying broomsticks, duster and other cleaning items are also considered auspicious.
What not to buy:
Plastic and glass are not considered auspicious. You should also avoid buying sharp objects such as knives, scissors and other such things. Buying shoes or footwear is also not considered lucky. Buying all forms of oils are avoided on this day.

Why is it celebrated?
