Sanitation workers of Odisha felicitated by Urban Local Bodies

Bhubaneswar: All Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of the State under the aegis of Housing and Urban Development Department, Govt of Odisha observed “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Week” from 27 September to 3 October, 2021.

To mark the occasion, various activities included sensitising households by Swachh Sathis to give solid waste in a segregated manner, CT/PT cleanliness drive and feedback by citizens through digital monitoring, waste to art exhibitions by Mission Shakti self-help groups, rallies, ward cleanliness drives, orientation of Swachh Karmis, rallies, competitions and felicitations were organised in all 114 ULBs of the State.

Sanitation workers including Swachh Karmis, Swachh Sathis were nominated by Mission Shakti Self Help Groups, who played a key role towards chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s call to make the State – “Swachh Odisha Sustha Odisha”, with greater community involvement.

In order to dignify the position of sanitation workers and recognise their contribution, a ‘Bada khana’ was organised by all the 114 ULBs. ULBs before too have organised ‘Bada khana’, which is an informal get together of all the sanitation workers and the officials of the ULB at regular intervals as directed by the Housing & Urban Development Department.

A total of 25673 sanitation workers were felicitated and were presented certificates. Many sanitation workers also expressed their pleasure by this particular activity and gesture undertaken by the Urban Local Bodies of the State.
