Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy: Tanmayee Behera’s century powers Odisha to thrilling two-wicket win over Pondicherry
Rajkot: A superb century by Tanmayee Behera helped Odisha seal a tense two-wicket win over Pondicherry in the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy (Elite) at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C, here on Saturday.
Chasing 247 for victory, Odisha reached 247 for 8 in 49.4 overs to complete an impressive run chase.
After Odisha opted to field, Pondicherry put up a fighting total of 246 all out in 48.3 overs, thanks mainly to fine knocks from Yuvashri and Sonal.
Yuvashri anchored the innings with a well-made 76 off 92 balls, striking 10 fours and a six. She found solid support in Sonal, who scored 69 off 84 deliveries, including eight boundaries and a six. Their contributions helped Pondicherry recover from early setbacks and build a competitive score.
For Odisha, Rima Laxmi Ekka led the bowling effort with impressive figures of 3 for 38 in 9 overs. Debutant Nivedita John Naik also chipped in with 2 for 44 from her 10 overs, ensuring Pondicherry did not run away with the game.
Tanmayee leads Odisha’s chase with match-winning century
Odisha’s chase was built around a brilliant innings from Tanmayee Behera. She scored 103 off 102 balls, hitting 12 fours and holding the innings together under pressure.
Sarita Meher provided crucial support with a patient 48 off 67 balls, helping stabilise the chase and adding valuable runs during a key phase of the innings.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Odisha kept the required rate under control. Pondicherry bowlers tried to stage a comeback, with Sonal taking 2 for 34 and Abirame R picking up 2 for 43, but Odisha held their nerve in the closing stages to cross the finish line with two wickets in hand and two balls to spare.
