CSIR-IMMT’s skill development programme showcases pond ash bricks technology
Bhubaneswar: CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) organised a one-day skill development programme on “Training Cum Demonstration on Pond Ash Bricks Technology” under the CSIR Integrated Skill initiative. More than 25 participants from diverse sectors attended the event, hosted at the Centre for Waste Utilization of Environment & Sustainability Department, here on Monday.
Dr Ramanuj Narayan, director of CSIR-IMMT, emphasised the significance of innovation and the institute’s commitment to education and cultural heritage preservation. He highlighted the role of fly ash in environmental sustainability and technological innovation, drawing parallels between ancient architectural marvels and modern skills.
The programme focused on pond ash bricks technology, showcasing the institute’s dedication to utilising industrial and mining solid wastes. CSIR-IMMT has licensed Fly ash brick manufacturing technology to 17 MSMEs and four major industries, contributing to the production of bricks containing up to 70 per cent fly ash.
During the demonstration, participants interacted with Dr SM Mustakim, Dr R Boopathy and Er R Sathish, learning about the process of making durable bricks adhering to BIS-12894:2002 standards. Dr Narayan encouraged individuals interested in biotechnology, emphasising its promising future for Odisha and the nation.
