Bengaluru man run over after drunken fight in Electronics City, software engineer arrested
Bengaluru: A 33-year-old man was allegedly run over and killed following a drunken argument after a local cricket tournament in Bengaluru’s Electronics City area. Police have arrested the accused, a 37-year-old software engineer, in connection with the incident.
The victim, identified as Prashanth M, a bodybuilder and resident of Veerasandra, died on Sunday evening after what police say was a deliberate act.
Argument after cricket match turns fatal
According to the police, Prashanth and Roshan Hegde were drinking beer at an open ground behind a mall in Electronics City after the tournament. An argument reportedly broke out between the two over a cigarette lighter.
The dispute quickly escalated into a physical fight. Both men allegedly attacked each other with beer bottles, and Hegde suffered a cut on his tongue during the scuffle.
After the altercation, Hegde got into his car and attempted to leave the spot. Police said Prashanth chased the vehicle and held onto its door as it moved along Veerasandra-Kammasandra Road.
Car rammed into tree and wall
Investigators said Hegde accelerated the car while Prashanth was still clinging to it. The vehicle was first driven into a tree and then into a compound wall. Prashanth sustained severe injuries in the crash and died.
Police initially received a call on the emergency helpline reporting a road accident. However, during the preliminary inquiry, officers found evidence suggesting that the crash was intentional.
A senior police official said the case was later treated as murder after initial findings pointed to deliberate action.
Dash camera footage helped track accused
The entire incident was recorded on the car’s dash camera, which played a crucial role in identifying and tracking down the accused.
Roshan Hegde was arrested by Hebbagodi police. Further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events.
