East Zone Inter University cricket tournament: Utkal University beat Tripura University, VBSPU outclass Kolhan University
Cuttack: Utkal University and VBS Purvanchal University registered convincing victories in their respective matches on Day 7 of the East Zone Inter University (EZIU) cricket tournament, played at Ravenshaw Ground 2 on Sunday.
Utkal University delivered a dominant all-round performance to defeat Tripura University by a massive 94 runs. Batting first, Utkal University posted a competitive total of 183 for 7 in their allotted overs. The innings saw steady contributions from the middle order, with M Gautam Gopal playing a key role. He scored 31 runs off 31 balls, including three boundaries, to help stabilise the innings.

Tripura University struggled in their chase and were bowled out for just 89 runs. Utkal’s bowlers kept things tight, with M Gautam Gopal also shining with the ball. He returned impressive figures of 3 overs, 1 maiden, 15 runs and 3 wickets, earning the Player of the Match award for his all-round effort.
In another match, VBS Purvanchal University secured a comfortable 60-run win over Kolhan University. Batting first, VBSPU scored 164 for 8, putting pressure on Kolhan University with a disciplined batting display.
Kolhan University found it difficult to keep up with the required run rate and finished at 104 for 8. The standout performer of the match was Sanhank Malhotra of VBS Purvanchal University, who produced a brilliant spell of bowling. He picked up five wickets for just 10 runs in his four overs, dismantling the Kolhan batting lineup and sealing a convincing victory for his team.
