EZIU cricket tournament, Day 4 roundup: Big wins for Tripura University, Siddharth University and VBS Purbanchal

Cuttack: Several commanding victories and close finishes highlighted the EZIU cricket tournament matches played on Wednesday (Jan 14), across Ravenshaw, MGM, Bidanasi and Driems grounds.

At Ravenshaw Ground 2, Tripura University delivered a dominant performance, crushing Berhampur University by 187 runs. Tripura University posted a massive 267 for 3, led by Debangshu Datta’s superb 98 off 60 balls, which included 14 fours and three sixes. In reply, Berhampur University were bowled out for just 80.

At the same venue, Siddharth University secured a comprehensive 92-run win over Munger University. Siddharth University scored 187 for 5, with Vibhor Dwivedi starring with a brilliant 92 off 60 balls, smashing 10 fours and four sixes. Munger University were dismissed for 95 in their chase.

At Ravenshaw Ground 1, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) chased down a modest target to beat MG Kashi Vidyapeeth by five wickets. MG Kashi Vidyapeeth scored 142 for 8, while BHU reached 144 for 5 in 18.1 overs, riding on Sachin Patel’s aggressive 56 off 32 balls, which featured six fours and two sixes.

In another match, B R A Bihar University edged past Jadavpur University by 12 runs. B R A Bihar University posted 163 for 8, with Chandra Prakash anchoring the innings with a solid 80 off 54 balls, including four fours and six sixes. Jadavpur University fell short at 151 for 9.

At the MGM Ground, Magadh University clinched a thrilling five-run win over the University of North Bengal. Magadh University made 188 for 8, while the University of North Bengal responded with 183 for 8. Aditya Raj played a key role with the ball, picking up three wickets for 31 runs in his four overs.

At the same venue, Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalay registered a convincing 121-run victory over Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University. Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalay posted 208 for 7 before dismissing Pt. RSU for just 87. Garv Singh starred with the ball, returning impressive figures of 5 for 12 in 2.4 overs.

At Bidanasi Ground, another nail-biter played out as MSCB University defeated the University of Burdwan by three runs. MSCB University scored 174 for 7, while the University of Burdwan managed 171 for 8 in reply. Suraj S. Mahana was the standout performer, claiming three wickets for 37 runs.

Meanwhile, Swami Vivekananda University was awarded a walkover against Gauhati University.

At the Driems Ground, Utkal University pulled off a three-wicket win over Raiganj University. Raiganj University scored 137 for 8, with Animesh Bhowmik shining with the ball for Raiganj, taking 4 for 23. Utkal University chased down the target at 138 for 7, guided by Swoop S. Bhuyan’s unbeaten 47 off 50 balls.

The most one-sided match of the day was where VBS Purbanchal University thrashed Tezpur University by 188 runs. VBS Purbanchal University piled up 236 for 3, powered by Ajeet Verma’s stunning 137 off 67 balls, featuring 19 fours and six sixes, and Manu Raja’s rapid 57 off 30 balls. Tezpur University collapsed for 48, with Deepak Yadav (2 for 6) and Sanjeev Chaturvedi (2 for 1) leading the bowling attack.
