Seven killed, over 15 injured in separate road accidents across Odisha

Bhubaneswar: At least seven people lost their lives and more than 15 others were injured in a series of road accidents reported from different parts of Odisha over the weekend, officials said on Sunday.

In Sambalpur district, three people were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed into a stationary truck on National Highway-55 within the limits of Dhanupali police station. Police said the driver died on the spot, while two other occupants succumbed to their injuries at Burla Medical College and Hospital. Local residents and police personnel rescued the injured who were trapped inside the damaged vehicle.

In another incident, two members of a family were killed in an accident at Binika in Sonepur district after their motorcycle collided with a van. Police said the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.

Two friends riding a motorcycle were also killed in a separate accident in the Banarpal police station area of Angul district, officials said.

Meanwhile, more than 15 people were injured in a head-on collision between a minibus and a van at Jhatipitia under Digapahandi police station limits in Ganjam district. Police and fire service teams rushed to the spot, rescued the injured passengers and shifted them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In another incident reported from Gajapati district, one person died and another was injured after their motorcycle fell nearly 25 feet from a bridge near Mahendragarh under R Udayagiri police station limits on Saturday night.
