Driver held after car crashes into police barricade, injures constable in north Delhi
New Delhi: Police have arrested a 40-year-old woman after her car ploughed into a police barricade during routine checking in the Shahbad Dairy area of outer north Delhi, leaving a constable injured, officials said on Saturday.
The incident occurred late on the night of December 24 when a police picket was in place as part of standard security checks. Police were alerted after receiving information that a white car had struck a barricade and hit a policeman on duty, with a woman allegedly found inside the vehicle in an intoxicated state.
When officers reached the spot, they found the car lodged against the barricade at the picket point. The driver, identified as Arti Jain, a resident of Rohini’s Sector-16, was seated behind the wheel and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, a senior police officer said.
The injured constable, Rohit of the 1st Battalion of the Delhi Armed Police, was immediately taken to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini. His condition is reported to be stable.
A case has been registered against the woman on charges of rash driving and causing hurt by an act that endangered human life and personal safety. She was taken into custody and the car involved in the incident has been seized.
According to police, Jain is employed in the private sector and was returning home after attending a birthday celebration when the accident took place. Authorities said further legal action will depend on medical reports, including confirmation of alcohol consumption.
