Mumbai Railway Police recover over 1,000 stolen mobile phones in special drive

Mumbai: The Mumbai Railway Police have recovered 1,018 stolen mobile phones worth more than Rs 1.80 crore and returned them to their owners, officials said on Wednesday.

The recovery was made during a special drive conducted in two phases. In the first phase, held in June and July, police traced 684 mobile phones valued at over Rs 1.11 crore and handed them back to complainants.

The second phase, carried out from September to November, focused on recovering mobile phones reported stolen in 2023, 2024, and 2025. A total of 57 teams were deployed, including 28 from Central Railway and 29 from Western Railway in Mumbai. These teams conducted investigations across 17 states and Union Territories, including Diu and Daman.

Of the 1,018 phones recovered, 444 were traced within Mumbai, 216 in other parts of Maharashtra, and 358 in other states.

The recovered devices were returned to their owners at a special event organised in Ghatkopar.
