Cooch Behar Trophy: Uttarakhand dominate after twin tons by Nishu and Aditya
Uttarakhand strengthened their grip on the match with a dominant batting display on Day 2 of their Cooch Behar Trophy (U19) clash against Odisha at the Highlanders Sports Academy in Kashipur. Resuming their first innings in a strong position, the hosts compiled a commanding 480/8, taking full control before ending the day with a massive 334-run lead.
The highlight of the day was the outstanding innings by Nishu Patel, who remained unbeaten on 161 off 192 deliveries, scoring 16 fours and six sixes. His fluent knock held the innings together and pushed Uttarakhand into a position of dominance. Supporting him was Aditya Naithani, who converted his solid start into an excellent 104 off 142 balls, studded with 14 boundaries.
Odisha’s bowlers toiled hard for breakthroughs, with Sambit K. Beja delivering a marathon spell of 35 overs, and finishing with 4/77. Priyanshu Mohanty chipped in with 2/82 from 26 overs, but Uttarakhand’s batters continued to accumulate steadily throughout the day.
Uttarakhand had earlier finished Day 1 at 149/2, powered by Rakshit Dalakoti’s 64 and Aditya Naithani’s unbeaten 59 after Odisha’s first innings folded for 146, despite a fighting 61 from Piyus Ranjan Mantri. Odisha had won the toss and elected to bat first.
