Nagpur man killed after refusing to share cigarette lighter, police launch hunt for attackers

Nagpur: A 33-year-old man was murdered in Nagpur allegedly after he refused to share his cigarette lighter with a group of unidentified assailants, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening in the Bina Sangam area under the jurisdiction of Khaparkheda police station. The victim has been identified as Sushilkumar Gedam, officials confirmed.

According to police, Gedam and his friend Ashish Gondane (33) were returning home after a swim when they were stopped by a group of four to five strangers who asked for a lighter. When the duo declined, a heated argument broke out.

The confrontation quickly escalated, with the attackers allegedly assaulting both men using stones and knives before fleeing the scene. Gedam succumbed to his injuries, while Gondane was left injured, officials said.

Police have launched a search to identify and arrest the suspects involved in the fatal assault.
