Woman raped, tortured for a week in Delhi, friend arrested
New Delhi: In a distressing incident, a woman from West Bengal’s Darjeeling, was allegedly raped and subjected to physical abuse for a week in a rented accommodation in Raju Park, south Delhi’s Neb Sarai area. The accused, identified as Paras (28), was booked for rape, sodomy, and causing hurt. He was apprehended on February 2 following the victim’s rescue.
The victim had been staying with Paras for approximately a month, having befriended him over the phone in the last 3-4 months. Originally planning to reach Bengaluru for a housemaid job in early January, she decided to make a stop in Delhi upon Paras’ suggestion. Despite initial assurances to help her find employment, the situation took a dark turn as Paras allegedly assaulted her physically and sexually over the course of a week.

The incident came to light on January 30 when a PCR call reported the woman being beaten by her husband, leading the Neb Sarai police to the scene. With approximately 20 injury marks on her body, the victim was promptly rescued and taken to AIIMS for medical attention.
A senior police officer revealed, “At one instance, Paras even allegedly ‘poured hot dal (lentils) over her,’ due to which she suffered burn injuries.”
Police have registered an FIR on January 30 under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape), and 377 (sodomy) of the Indian Penal Code. Paras, originally from Uttarakhand and employed as a cook at a local eatery, is now in custody. Further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
