Bhubaneswar: In a significant stride towards enhancing quality standards and ensuring patient safety, SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM) here has achieved the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) Prime certification. The certification, awarded on Wednesday, marks a remarkable accomplishment for SUMUM, positioning it as the first hospital in Odisha to attain this recognition with an impressive compliance rate of 98.4 per cent.

The certification programme, conducted within the hospital premises, received support from the renowned medical technology company Becton, Dickinson and Co (BD), further amplifying SUMUM’s commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery.

Dr Swetapadma Dash, the chief executive officer of SUMUM, received the certificate on behalf of the hospital during the ceremony, which saw the participation of consultants, nursing and pharmacy team members, department heads, and representatives from BD, including Dr Pankaj Raina, medical affairs leader-India and South Asia.

Initiated in 2022, the JCI Prime programme witnessed the concerted efforts of SUMUM’s infection control department, nursing and pharmacy teams, in-patient services team, and quality management system, all working under the guidance and unwavering support of the hospital’s top management.

Following the certification ceremony, an academic session was conducted addressing crucial topics such as ‘Invasive Fungal Infection in ICU’ and ‘Infection Control Care Bundle’. The sessions, facilitated by Dr Anand Mishra and Dr Arun Rath, both senior consultants in Critical Care Medicine, provided valuable insights aimed at further enhancing patient care and safety protocols at SUMUM.
