New Delhi: Delhi Police on Saturday arrested two women for allegedly stealing jewellery items from stalls at the India International Trade Fair (IITF) in Pragati Maidan, recovering valuables worth around Rs 25,000. The arrests come amid separate reports of a saree worth Rs 1 lakh being stolen from the venue, though no formal complaint has been filed in that case.

According to officials, at least three stalls reported theft attempts during the day. Special teams deployed outside the exhibition halls to monitor suspicious activity intercepted the two women, identified as Yogita and Uma of Vishwas Nagar, as they attempted to flee after the alleged theft.

“Alert teams stopped the women while they were trying to escape. All reported incidents are being addressed immediately,” a senior police officer said. He added that while CCTV footage is being examined regarding the high-value saree theft, no official complaint has been lodged yet.

Police said two confirmed cases of jewellery theft were reported from Hall No. 1, where vendors at stalls Q-10 and Q-11 noticed items missing from their display counters. CCTV analysis helped investigators track the accused, leading to their arrest and the recovery of stolen bracelets and other ornaments. The stolen items were later identified by the complainants.

Further investigation into the thefts at the IITF is underway.
