Betul: In Madhya Pradesh’s Betul district, two tribal men were allegedly beaten in separate incidents, leading to the arrest of seven individuals, as reported by PTI on Wednesday.
One incident occurred on November 15 last year when the victim, a resident of Baspani area, was lured to Betul city by an acquaintance under the pretext of a dispute over borrowed money. Subsequently, the victim was purportedly hung upside down in a room and subjected to beating with a belt, slippers and sticks, according to the police.
The victim, expressing fear due to the perpetrators’ criminal background, revealed the incident to reporters on Tuesday. After a video of the assault circulated on social media, the victim’s family brought him to the Kotwali police station on Tuesday to file a complaint. An FIR was filed against three identified persons and three others.
Betul Superintendent of Police Siddharth Choudhary stated that five to six individuals were involved in the incident, with one arrest made, and the search ongoing for the remaining suspects.
In a separate incident on February 7, another tribal youth faced alleged assault by a group of individuals over an old enmity. A video of the incident went viral on Sunday, leading to the arrest of two accused, Chanchal Rajput and Chandan Sardar, on Monday. Subsequently, four more individuals – Gullu Chitrar, Ankit Chitrar, Nandi Jharbade, and Naved Khan – were also apprehended.
