Rohit Sharma was happy when his Afghanistan counterpart won the toss and chose to bat because he believed that the run-chase would be easy under lights with the dew.

He was right as he made batting look damn easy as he led India’s run-chase of 273 by putting the attack mode on. The World Cups had always been a happy hunting ground for the stylish right-handed batter.

“It was a good pitch to bat on, just backed myself to play my natural game. It’s a special feeling to get a World Cup hundred,” Rohit said during the post-match presentation.

Rohit slammed the fastest World Cup hundred by an Indian batter, and took 63 balls to reach his century. The record was previously held by Kapil Dev, who had hit a century in a World Cup off 72 balls.

He also broke another record by scoring his seventh hundred in World Cups, the most by an Indian going past Sachin Tendulkar (six centuries).

When asked about it, he said: “Don’t want to think too much about it. I don’t want to lose my focus.”

With Rohit back in form and India registering a big win over Afghanistan with 15 overs to spare, augurs well for the host nation heading into the big game against Pakistan on October 14 in Ahmedabad.
