Schools in Noida will remain closed for students from Nursery to Class 8 on January 16 and 17 as cold wave conditions and dense fog continue to affect the region.

The decision comes after the district administration extended winter holidays till January 15 in view of severe cold weather. With temperatures remaining low, the authorities decided to grant further relief to young students.

The closure order was issued by Basic Education Officer Rahul Panwar following directions from the district magistrate** after reviewing the prevailing weather conditions, according to PTI.

“All schools from Nursery to Class 8 affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board and other boards operating in Gautam Buddh Nagar district shall remain closed on January 16 and 17,” the order stated.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold and foggy conditions are likely to persist over the next few days. On January 16, temperatures are expected to range between 5°C and 19°C, with dense fog reducing visibility during morning hours.

Very dense fog is forecast for January 17, with temperatures hovering between 5°C and 18°C. From January 18 onwards, a gradual rise in temperature is expected, with minimum temperatures around 6°C and maximums reaching 20°C to 21°C by January 21.

However, fog or mist is likely during early morning hours from January 18 to January 21, before conditions improve later in the day.

The Met department has not issued any weather warning for Noida till January 21.
