Kanpur Lamborghini crash: Tobacco tycoon’s son arrested after six injured in Gwaltoli area
Kanpur: Kanpur Police on Thursday arrested Shivam Mishra, son of well-known tobacco businessman KK Mishra, in connection with the Lamborghini crash that injured six people in the city’s upscale Gwaltoli area.
The accident occurred around 3 pm on February 8 on VIP Road when a Lamborghini Revuelto, a luxury Italian sports car worth over Rs 10 crore, allegedly ploughed into pedestrians and several vehicles before mounting a divider and finally stopping. Six people were injured and multiple vehicles were damaged in the incident.
An FIR was later lodged by one of the injured, 18-year-old e-rickshaw driver Mohd Taufeeq.
As reported by India Today, the case witnessed a dramatic development when a man named Mohan claimed that he was driving the car at the time of the crash and not Shivam. Speaking to reporters outside a court, Mohan alleged that Shivam, who was seated next to him, suffered a sudden seizure moments before the accident.
Mohan said Shivam suddenly collapsed onto him while he was at the wheel, leaving him panicked and struggling to control the vehicle. He claimed the car first hit a three-wheeler, then climbed the divider before coming to a halt. He also stated that the car’s automatic locking system delayed his exit and that he later moved Shivam to the driver’s seat before stepping out.
Mohan’s lawyer filed a surrender application and he appeared in court on Wednesday to formally surrender. However, the Gwaltoli police did not name him as an accused in their report. Taking note of this, the court declined to accept his surrender and asked the local police station to submit a detailed report.
