Chip design and manufacturing centre to come up at IIT-Bhubaneswar

IIT-Bhubaneswar will become the 31st institution in the country for designing and manufacturing of chip under the startup programme as Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday handed over Government of India’s approval letter.

During his visit to IIT-BBS, the Union Minister of Railways, Communication & Electronics and Information Technology encouraged the students for startup programmes, and informed that now India has around 74,000 thousand startups which were only 400 in 2014-15.

He also visited the laboratories of IIT-Bhubaneswar and told students to strive for new ideas and innovation.

Challenging the students of the institute, Vaishnaw said if they can provide at least 10 techniques for 5G, then IIT-Bhubaneswar will get Centre of Excellence to have 5G usages.

Vaishnaw also said that IIT-BBS will tie up with Gati Shakti for Railway Technology Development, if proposals are received.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad Singh, Chairman and Board of Governor of IIT and Prof. PV Satyam, Dean of IIT-Bhubaneswar were also present.
