Four killed, 25 injured in Yamuna Expressway pile-up in Mathura
Mathura: Four people were killed and at least 25 others were injured after a major pile-up involving several vehicles on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura in the early hours of Tuesday, police said.
The accident occurred around 4.30 am on the Agra-to-Noida stretch of the expressway under the jurisdiction of Baldev police station, when dense fog severely reduced visibility. At least seven buses along with a number of smaller vehicles rammed into each other, leading to the massive collision.
Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar said the poor visibility due to fog was the primary reason behind the crash. He confirmed that four people died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Some of the vehicles involved, including buses, caught fire following the collision.
Visuals from the scene showed several buses reduced to charred shells, as cranes were deployed to clear the damaged vehicles from the expressway. Authorities arranged government vehicles to transport stranded passengers to their destinations.
Traffic on the affected stretch was disrupted after the accident, prompting the police to divert vehicles to alternate routes until the road could be cleared.
