EZIU cricket tournament: Tripura, Utkal, BRABU and VBSPU register wins
Cuttack: Several one-sided contests and standout individual performances marked the East Zone Inter University (EZIU) Cricket Tournament matches played on across venues, here on Friday (Jan 16) .
At Ravenshaw Ground 1, Tripura University posted a strong 231 for 4 against MSCB University, riding on a blistering knock from Sridam Paul. The batter smashed 124 runs off just 48 balls, hitting eight fours and twelve sixes. In reply, MSCB University could only manage 192 for 9, handing Tripura University a 39-run victory.
In another match at the same venue, Utkal University secured a comfortable win over Sidharth University. Sidharth University were bowled out for 81, with Ganesh Tomar producing a tight spell of 4 overs, including a maiden, conceding just 7 runs and taking three wickets. Utkal University chased down the target with ease, reaching 83 for 5 to win by five wickets.

At the Driems ground, BRA Bihar University defeated Dibrugarh University by 54 runs. BRABU scored 173 for 4, with Shivam Kumar top-scoring with 62 runs from 49 balls, including nine fours and a six. Dibrugarh University were dismissed for 119, as Ravi Kumar starred with the ball, claiming four wickets for 14 runs in four overs.
Swami Vivekananda University faced a heavy defeat against VBS Purbanchal University at the same venue. VBSPU piled up 243 for 6, powered by Aman Ali’s explosive 85 off 38 balls and a quick 60 off 29 balls from Alert Verma. In response, SVU were bowled out for 93. Prince Maurya led the bowling charge with five wickets for 18 runs, while Vansh Sharma picked up three wickets for 14 runs.
At Ravenshaw Ground 2, Kolhan University were declared winners against Sambalpur University after both teams finished on identical scores of 185. Kolhan University scored 185 for 5, while Sambalpur University ended at 185 for 9. As per tournament playing conditions, Kolhan University were declared winners due to losing fewer wickets. Despite the result, Sambalpur University’s Shresth Singh impressed with a fighting 97 off 54 balls, laced with ten fours and four sixes.
In the final match of the day, the University of Calcutta defeated Veer Kunwar Singh University by seven wickets. Veer Kunwar Singh University were bowled out for 107, and the University of Calcutta chased the target comfortably, reaching 109 for 3. Soumojit Mondal played a decisive role in the chase, scoring 60 runs off 28 balls, which included four fours and six sixes.
