Delhi welcomes new year with foggy morning, mercury drops to 7.4°C
Delhi woke up to a chilly New Year morning with shallow fog blanketing the city and the minimum temperature dipping to 7.4 degrees Celsius, according to the weather department.
The minimum temperature, slightly warmer than the seasonal average, was nearly two degrees lower than the previous day’s reading. The relative humidity stood at 87 percent, while the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 18 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cold day conditions in isolated areas of the city, with dense fog likely at some locations on Wednesday. Wind speeds are expected to pick up in the afternoon, reaching 14-18 km/h, but will taper off to less than 8 km/h by evening. Smog or shallow fog is anticipated during the evening and nighttime hours.
Meanwhile, air quality data was unavailable on the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) website and the Sameer app, which typically provide hourly updates on the Air Quality Index (AQI).
