Dehradun: Nine MBBS students suspended in ragging case at Doon Medical College
Dehradun: Nine MBBS students of Doon Medical College here have been suspended and evicted from the hostel for their alleged involvement in a ragging incident, officials said on Monday.
The action followed an inquiry by the institution’s Anti-Ragging Committee, which found the students from the 2023 and 2024 batches guilty of assaulting two junior students inside the college hostel on January 12.
According to officials, two of the students have been suspended from classes for two months and barred from hostel accommodation and internship for the entire duration of their course. They have also been fined Rs 50,000 each. In addition, seven other senior students have been suspended from classes for one month and expelled from the hostel for three months.
The committee has submitted its inquiry report to the principal of Doon Medical College, Dr Geeta Jain, who reiterated that the institution follows a zero-tolerance policy on ragging. “Doon Medical College is a ragging-free campus and such incidents will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” she said.
State Medical and Medical Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat termed the incident extremely unfortunate and said he had instructed the college authorities to take strict action to ensure such cases do not recur. He added that incidents of ragging raise serious concerns about discipline and order in educational institutions and will not be accepted.
