CK Nayudu Trophy: Deshwal’s 108 and Asutosh Mandi’s five-for headline Day 1

Sambalpur: Haryana rode on a fine century from Rohan Deshwal, while Asutosh Mandi’s five-wicket haul stood out for Odisha, on Day 1 of the Col C K Nayudu Trophy (U23) match at the Veer Surendra Sai Stadium here on Friday.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Haryana were bowled out for 276 in 70.5 overs. Deshwal anchored the innings with a composed 108 off 158 balls, hitting 15 fours and two sixes. His knock held the innings together through crucial phases.

Vivek Kumar added impetus with a fluent 55 off 56 deliveries, which included eight boundaries and a six, ensuring Haryana crossed the 250-mark. The rest of the batting unit made smaller contributions to take the team to a competitive total.

For Odisha, Asutosh Mandi was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with impressive figures of 5 for 69 in 12 overs, including two maidens. Ashutosh Chhuria provided strong support, claiming 2 for 42 in 14 overs at an economical rate of three runs per over. and

In reply, Odisha began steadily and reached 52 without loss and trailed by 224 runs at stumps. Dinesh K Majhi remained unbeaten on 26 off 35 balls with five fours, while Om T Munde was not out on 22 from 31 deliveries, hitting four boundaries.
