Centurion University celebrates GIS Day
Bhubaneswar: Centurion University celebrated GIS Day on its Paralakhemundi campus on 17 November, with a hybrid poster presentation done by Department of Civil Engineering and Centre for Data Science and Machine Learning.
The event featured technical discussions and poster presentations covering the application of Geographic Information System (GIS), Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning for water resources management, urban planning, environmental management, disaster management, and image processing.
The purpose of the event was to provide a platform for students and budding researchers to meet and discuss with eminent scientists and professors regarding the recent advances in the GIS domain.
More than three hundred participants from around the world participated in the event. Almost 200 registrations had been received from national and international participants out of which 58 were selected for the hybrid poster presentation.
The event included a keynote talk from Dr DP Kanungo, chief Scientist, CBRI, Roorkee on Landslide Mapping and Monitoring. Joseph J Kerski and Mayuri Bhattacharyya, ESRI representatives from USA and India, respectively delivered a talk on the potential of GIS and possible career opportunities for students and faculties.
With welcome address by Prof Sovan Sankalp, the event was inaugurated by Dr Anita Patra, registrar, CUTM in the presence of Dr PK Mohanty, Dr AR Dash, Dr SP Nanda, Dr Ashok Mishra, Dr Sujata Chakravarty and Dr Prafulla Kumar Panda (HOD, Civil Engineering Department and coordinator).
Centurion University president Prof Muktikanta Mishra, vice-president Prof DN Rao and vice-chancellor Prof Dr Supriya Pattanayak highly appreciated the organisers for planning such an international event.
