Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has achieved a milestone in its mission to curb rabies transmission, completing the vaccination of 26,951 dogs. The pulse anti-rabies vaccination drive, aimed at preventing the spread of the disease to humans, saw dedicated efforts from the BMC, according to a recent statement.

In a special campaign conducted from February 26 to March 1, 10 out of the 25 civic wards were covered, thanks to the collaboration with NGO Worldwide Veterinary Services – Mission Rabies, as highlighted in a BMC release on Wednesday.

Dr Kalimpasha Pathan, the general manager of BMC’s animal husbandry department and Deonar Abattoir, emphasised the expansion of efforts compared to the previous year. “This is a continuous process, and the remaining wards will be covered very soon,” he told PTI.

Rabies poses a threat as a fatal but preventable viral infection transmitted through the saliva of infected animals.
