AMNS India’s Odisha operations celebrate 53rd National Safety Week
Bhubaneswar: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India’s Odisha Operations recently commemorated the 53rd National Safety Week with a resolute focus on fostering awareness about health and safety among its workforce.
The week-long initiative, kickstarted on March 4, 2024, witnessed active participation from employees and shop floor workers under the theme “Focus on Safety Leadership for Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Excellence”.
The event started with the hoisting of the safety flag by Suresha G, executive director of Odisha Operations, AMNS India. The activities included administering safety pledges, organising rallies within the plant premises, and hosting events like ‘DASH-A-THLON – Run for Sustainability’ at Paradeep beach road, drawing participation from over 160 employees and business associates.

A diverse range of engagements filled the week, from ‘Nukkad Natak’ and Personal Protective Equipment exhibitions to quiz competitions and safety drills. Noteworthy participation came from senior management including USR Raju, head-Pellet Plant, Saroj Pattnaik, head-Power Plant, and CH Hariprasad, head-Operations.
Emphasising the significance of health and safety, Sanjeev Muduli, head-Health and Safety, underscored the collective responsibility in fostering a healthier and safer workplace culture.
Beyond the confines of the plant, initiatives like ‘Safety Beyond Boundaries’ extended awareness activities to the Government High School, Paradeep, involving students in quizzes and other awareness activities.
Suresha G, executive director, Odisha Operations, AMNS India said: “We aim to bring overall improvement in health and safety by introducing various behavioural based sessions, cross functional shop floor audit and various rewards and recognitions to encourage best practices.”
