Aadhaar Card: How to update phone number, address and correct details

Aadhaar is used as an unique identification number which is linked to a resident’s biometric details. The card is universal and so, agencies and other service providers can directly contact the central UID — Unique Identification Database from any part of the country when user authentication is required.

To update your Aadhaar details both online as well as offline, here is a step-by-step process to update or correct your card details.

Updating Aadhaar Card via Enrollment Centre

By visiting the enrollment centre, that is the Aadhaar Sena Kendra, you need to follow the steps.

Step 1 : Fill out the Aadhaar Correction form

Step 2 : Ensure that the information you add is correct and not the one that is mentioned in your old Aadhaar since this is a correction form

Step 3 : Then get self-attested copies of proofs to validate your update request

Step 4 : Recheck for any errors and submit the form along with the documents

● The payment charge for every visit to the enrollment centre for correction or update is Rs 25.

● In the enrollment centre you get the option to update your biometric data, mobile number, image, and so on

● You can also change or update your mobile number in the enrollment centre

● Even by visiting various banks, you can update your Aadhaar card

Note : An Aadhaar update costs Rs 100 if you are also updating your biometric data — irrespective of the number of fields changed. However, if you wish to change your biometric data only then it costs Rs 50 only.

Updating Aadhaar Card online

A person can change their address, name, date of birth, gender, e-mail and mobile number through the official Aadhaar website online. Take the example of updating your address.

Step 1 : Go visit the Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal through which you’ll see the ‘Update your address online’

Step 2 : For valid addresses, select ‘Proceed to Update Address’

Step 3 : You get redirected to another window and here, you proceed to enter your Aadhaar number

Step 4 : Click on ‘Send OTP’ or ‘Enter a TOTP’

Step 5 : An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number from the UIDAI database. Once you receive an OTP sms, enter the OTP and proceed to log into your Aadhaar account

Step 6 : You can select either one of the options —‘Update Address by Address Proof’ or ‘Update Address with Secret Code’

Step 7 : Enter the address mentioned in the Proof of Address (POA) and the click on the button ‘Preview’

Step 8 : The modify button allows you to make any modifications to your address after correction you can click on the tick box for declaration

Step 9 : Click on the ‘Submit’ button

Step 10 : Then select the document type you wish to submit as PoA for verification purposes and upload a scanned copy of the address proof. Click on ‘Submit’ after all of this is done

Step 11 : The Aadhaar Update request will be accepted. A 14- digit URN is then generated—this Update Request Number is used to check the status of the Aadhaar Address Update. Once it has been updated, download it and print your Aadhaar card.

Updating Aadhaar Card via Post

This is the offline method of updating your Aadhaar card by sending update request through a post to the UIDAI, follow the steps below

Step 1 : First you need to download the online ‘Aadhaar Data Update/Correction form’

Step 2 : Make the necessary fill ups of updating your Aadhaar card

Step 3 : Get the copies of your documents ready—ones that are needed for validation

Step 4 : Send the form and the self-attested documents to the respective postal addresses, UIDAI Post Box No. 10, Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh – 480001, or to UIDAI Post Box No. 99, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad – 500034.

Conclusion

The request for updating your Aadhaar may get rejected sometimes since specific provisions are used to verify the details. Only when these criteria are fulfilled the UIDAI can update the details on the system.
