Woman, two children found dead in Malappuram pond, police launch probe
Malappuram (Kerala): A tragic incident came to light in Malappuram on Sunday after a woman and her two children were found dead in a pond near the Thazhekkattupadi panchayat office, police said.
The deceased were identified as Sainaba (45), her son Muhammad Ashique (22) and daughter Fasila Fathima (18), all residents of Parappur. According to preliminary information, the family had gone to the pond in the afternoon to wash clothes, as they reportedly did on a regular basis.
The incident came to public attention around 4 pm when a local resident noticed a body floating in the water and alerted others. Soon after, people gathered at the spot and informed the police.
During a search of the area, police found three pairs of sandals and washed clothes lying near the pond. Further efforts led to the recovery of two more bodies from the water.
Police have registered a case of unnatural death and begun an investigation to determine how the incident occurred. Officials said a detailed inquiry is necessary to establish the exact circumstances leading to the deaths, as the family was familiar with the pond and frequently visited it.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to the family members after the procedure, police added.
