Balasore: The long pending demand for a subway near Nidhipanda bridge in Balasore has been approved by union railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The design of the subway already approved for which Rs 14.7 crore has been sanctioned by the Railway Board towards its construction.

Nidhipanda bridge is an important bridge in Haldipada-Balasore section of Kharagpur–Bhadrak section. One of the spans of this bridge is being used by local people for commuting of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The area gets waterlogged during monsoon and the crossing under the bridge becomes unapproachable cutting connectivity to villages.

In light of these issues, after the minister’s instructions a survey was immediately conducted for provision of an alternate arrangement for vehicular traffic as well as pedestrians. A scheme was prepared whereby a subway was proposed.

This subway will be used for passing of all kinds of vehicles. The construction work will start soon. Moreover, as the area gets waterlogged during monsoon, a second subway has been proposed which will act as an all-weather road.
