Mumbai: An unidentified couple has been booked for allegedly burying the body of a 20-day-old girl secretly in Charkop, a north Mumbai suburb of Kandivali.
The incident occurred near a metro rail station on Link Road on Tuesday, as reported by PTI.
The discovery was made when a 34-year-old man observed the couple acting suspiciously near a nursery. He reported the incident to the nursery owner, who then alerted the police. The body was subsequently exhumed in the presence of police and judicial officials.
The couple has been charged under section 318 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to secretly burying or disposing of a child’s dead body with the intention of concealing the birth, a police official said.
Efforts are underway to track down the unidentified couple, as investigations continue into the incident, the police official added.
