Mumbai: Police have registered a case against two Chennai-based men for allegedly defrauding a Mumbai businessman of Rs 33.5 lakh by promising to secure a medical college seat for his daughter, an official said on Tuesday.
The FIR identifies the accused as Rocky Savio and Stephen Duxter. As per the complaint, the victim’s daughter completed Class 12 three years ago and appeared for NEET in July 2022, but her low score kept her out of medical colleges in Maharashtra.
The businessman was introduced to the duo through relatives and sought their help. Police said the accused claimed they could arrange a seat in a Chennai medical college and demanded Rs 33.5 lakh for the admission process, which the complainant paid.
However, even after months of waiting, no seat was secured and the accused allegedly kept giving vague responses. Following an initial inquiry, police registered a cheating case. No arrests have been made yet, officials added.
